Yoga Studio Focuses On Women's Health With Online, In Person Classes

A Bowie-based yoga studio perfect for beginners and seasoned yogis offers both online and in person classes.

BOWIE, MD — Whether you're a seasoned yogi or interested in getting started with yoga, a Bowie-based fitness studio can help.

Stephanie Gaines-Bryant opened Radio Yogi Health and Fitness in 2014. Most of her clients are women between the ages of 35-65 who are professionals or retirees.

"I want to promote health and wellness for women, especially African American women who suffer from heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure at disproportionately higher rates than other populations," Gaines-Bryant told Patch. "I offer in studio and online yoga classes for beginners and seasoned yogis. I also offer specialty classes for senior citizens and cancer survivors. My most popular classes are my chair yoga classes for seniors. We don't just offer classes, we offer a community where women of all ages and fitness levels can gather and practice in the name of good health.

Located at 1522 Pointer Ridge Pl, Unit G, in Bowie, Gaines-Bryant said she loves her spot as Bowie is a "warm, friendly community." Now in their 11th year of operations, she can look back on the journey her business has taken and smile at the thought of how its grown and how many people she's helped over the years.

"We opened in January of 2014 in a rundown martial arts/kickboxing gym on Old Annapolis Road in Bowie. I rented a room from the owner of the gym. My studio was across the hall from the kickboxing classes. The gym was so noisy that it was almost impossible to conduct the meditation portion of our yoga classes, but I couldn't afford to move. It was a lesson in the old saying, 'bloom where you are planted,'" Gaines-Bryant told Patch. "I built my clientele and four years later, opened my own studio on Pointer Ridge Place in Bowie in September of 2018. The business immediately began to flourish in the new location, then COVID 19 struck in 2020. We survived the pandemic and continue to thrive in studio and online."
