UMd. Fires Head Football Coach Randy Edsall

Athletics director Kevin Anderson announced Sunday that Edsall had been relieved of his duties.

University of Maryland head football coach Randy Edsall has been relieved of his duties, athletics director Kevin Anderson announced Sunday.

“We appreciate Randy’s tireless commitment to the University of Maryland,” Anderson said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision, but ultimately this is the best course of action for our football program moving forward.”

The university has also relieved assistant head coach Lyndon Johnson of his duties.

Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley has been named interim coach for the remainder of the season. A news conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. to discuss the changes.
