Small Plane Crashes in Laytonsville, One Dead
One person was seriously injured, another dead after a plane crashed about 10 miles west of Clarksville.
A small plane crashed around 7 p.m. Monday night in Laytonsville, according to Asst. Fire Chief Scott Graham with Mongomery County Fire and Rescue.
The plane crashed near the Davis Airport in the 23600 block of Pocahontas Drive, Graham said. The airport is about 10 miles west of Clarksville, next to Patuxent State Park.
Frank Schmidt, a 79-year-old flight instructor, was killed in the crash, according to an article on myfoxdc.com. Fox DC reported Schmidt was an experienced instructor who was teaching another pilot how to operate a Beechcraft BE23.

No official cause of the crash has been determined, according to fire officials.
Graham said another person remains in critical condition and was airlifted to a local trauma center. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
