Severe Storm Watch: Dangerous Winds, Urban Flooding Possible in Maryland

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until late Tuesday in several Maryland communities, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusty winds are the primary threat of storms in the region Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until 10 p.m.

"Stronger, slow-moving thunderstorm clusters could produce locally heavy rain and possible urban flooding in normally vulnerable areas," according to the weather service forecast.

The best chance for storms arrives after 7 p.m. and continues into the night, according to the Weather Channel.

Showers and thunderstorms should exit the area around midnight, according to the weather service, but may linger in southern Maryland.

More significant storms are expected Tuesday afternoon across the Northeast, including damaging wind gusts and the chance for hail.

The skies clear Wednesday, with a high near 83. You'll still notice the wind, though, at 8 to 10 mph.

The next chance for storms will be Thursday night and Friday.
