Beneath the shade of a tree, Way overlooked the property of in Davidsonville as hundreds gathered to honor Sgt. Julian Chase, a 22-year-old U.S. Marine from Edgewater .
Way, a retired U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant, stood in silence along with Evelyn Rophael and Sara Taylor, both from West River, in honor of the young Marine and his sacrifice.

At 11 a.m. Wednesday, family and friends gathered at the church for Chase’s funeral service. Some supporters like Way stood outside holding flags while others, like several Hogs for Heroes and Patriot Guard riders, simply sat outside.
A police officer overseeing the church property during the service told Patch that authorities were prepared if made an appearance at Chase’s funeral. The Kansas-based church is known for its highly charged protests of the funerals of military members. However, more than an hour after the funeral began, no protesters were in sight.

Members of the media were restricted to a large field away from the church, but hundreds of flags extended throughout the property and along Central Avenue, providing a somber tribute to the 22-year-old Marine.
According to Chase’s obituary in The Baltimore Sun, he will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia with full military honors. However, the date of his burial ceremony has not been released to the public.
