'Vishing' Scam Targets Howard County Residents: Prosecutor

The Howard County Office of the State's Attorney is warning residents about a "vishing" scam that mentions phony legal paperwork.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A scam has surfaced in Howard County that has residents believing the Howard County Office of the State's Attorney is trying to serve them with paperwork.

Called "vishing," which stands for voice phishing, residents receive a phone call that tries to trick them into providing personal information or take action that benefits the caller or scammer.

"If you receive a phone call from anyone stating they are trying to serve you paperwork from anyone in our office, please do not call the number they are asking you to call. If you receive correspondence purportedly from our office, please contact our office directly," the office of the state's attorney said in a statement.
