MCPS Food Distribution Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Montgomery County Public Schools meal distribution employee has tested positive for COVID-19, according to officials.

MCPS said the food and nutrition services staff member last worked at South Lake Elementary School in Gaithersburg on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The individual was wearing a mask and gloves at the time.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we have asked other employees who worked with the affected staff member to self-quarantine for 14 days since their last contact with the employee," MCPS said in a statement. "In addition, we are sharing this so anyone who visited the school prior to or on Nov. 11 can self-monitor for symptoms. Based on discussions with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, we believe the risk level to students and families is low."
