GERMANTOWN, MD — Robbers used a pickup truck to crash through the doors of a Giant Food store, ram an ATM in a failed attempt to grab the cash inside, and fled, said Montgomery County Police.

Investigators have released surveillance video of the pickup barreling into the store and three men who tried to pry open the ATM before running from the store, leaving the broken-down truck behind. (See video at the bottom of this story.)

The burglary occurred about 4:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Giant Food store in the 18300 block of Leaman Farm Road in Germantown. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects.

Police said in a news release that three unknown suspects barreled into the store by driving a truck in reverse through the main entrance, causing significant damage. The suspects then got out of the vehicle and tried to open an ATM. When that failed, they drove the vehicle into the store and struck the ATM several times in an effort to open it and swipe the cash.

The suspects left without taking any money from the ATM or property from the store. The damaged truck was left in the store parking lot.
