Driver Charged In Crash That Killed Germantown Man
A Gaithersburg man was arrested this week in connection with the July 20 death of 39-year-old Isaac Akomanyi, police said.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A driver is facing a manslaughter charge months after a summer crash that claimed the life of a Germantown man.
Agustin E. Jaramillo Lopez, 45, of Gaithersburg, was arrested this week and charged with negligent manslaughter by vehicle in connection with the July 20 death of 39-year-old Isaac Akomanyi, Montgomery County police announced Thursday.
According to police, Jaramillo Lopez was driving a Dodge Ram truck northbound on North Frederick Avenue at an excessive speed when he rear-ended a Nissan Altima, which had just turned right from the parking lot at 18701 N. Frederick Ave.

The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road and strike a tree, police said.
Akomanyi, the driver of the Nissan, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators later determined that Jaramillo Lopez reached a top speed of 98.2 mph in a 40-mph zone and struck the Nissan while traveling at nearly 80 mph. According to police, his blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.159 one hour after the collision, nearly twice the legal limit.
Jaramillo Lopez was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.
