Here are the top stories in Glen Burnie today:

  1. Residents in the Lothian area want to revisit a mining industry that was approved more than 50 years ago. The waste disposal brings in 50 - 100 trucks daily down the 2-lane road. The residents contest that it is a health hazard. (The Chesapeake Bay Journal)
  2. Homes near BWI airport may receive money to help shield their homes from the airplane noise. The loud jets going overhead have been a problem and the surrounding neighbors have complained for many years. $4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Airport Improvement Program will be split between 220 homes surrounding the area. (Glen Burnie Patch)
  3. The State of Maryland has charged Richard K. Impallaria, Maryland state delegate representing District 7, with multiple counts of misconduct in office, theft and embezzlement. He is charged with having the General Assembly pay rent for an office that did not exist. Also, there are invoices that were sent to pay for furniture for the non-existent office. (The Bay Net)
  4. A Brooklyn Park hotel was the scene of an armed robbery. On Tuesday, July 26 at 2:15 p.m. a guest at the Park Plaza Motel was forced into his bathroom, tied up and robbed. Police are asking for any information about this case. (News Break)
  5. Police press release for July 27 show several issues around the area the past couple of days. Police responded to several armed robberies, carjackings and drugs. Anyone with any information regarding these cases, please contact the police. (Anne Arundel County)

  • Today is "National Waterpark Day" and "National Moth Week." It has been quite hot out lately and a waterpark would certainly feel very refreshing! Moths do not really get the appreciation they deserve! Have you seen them up close? They are quite the beauty to behold! (Holidays and Observations)
