Police arrested two Annapolis males at the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge early Sunday morning after a shooting incident that police said resulted from the males not being allowed to enter a 16th birthday party being held at the establishment.

A 19-year-old woman was grazed in the lower part of her body but refused treatment at the scene for what police called a superficial wound.

Desmond Smith, 23, and Tijee Benett, 16, were arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and other charges. Benett was charged as an adult.

According to police, officers responded to the Moose Lodge in the 1900 block of Crain Highway for report of a large crowd of disorderly people and while in the parking lot heard several gunshots and saw a blue Ford Crown Victoria leaving the lot. The 19-year-old woman was injured as she ran from the area.

Officers stopped the car and detained the five people who were inside. Police also found and recovered a handgun on Crain Highway near the exit of the Moose Lodge parking lot.

According to police, an investigation determined that the incident was a result of the men not being allowed into the party taking place at the Moose Lodge, which had been rented out for a 16th birthday party.

Officers reported that, despite a rental agreement that stated security was to be provided by the renter, there was no security in place.

A request for comment from someone with the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge was not immediately returned.

The investigation is ongoing.

Linthicum:

Anne Arundel County Police arrested a Glen Burnie man Thursday night after they say he forced a couple into their car and demanded money.

According to police, Reginald Charles Callaway, 23, approached a man and woman at a restaurant in the area of West Nursery Road and Winterson Road in Linthicum shortly before 9:45 p.m. and forced them into their vehicle. Police said the man demanded money. The victims—a 44-year-old man and 43-year-old woman from Richmond, VA—told Callaway they had no money on them but had some at their hotel a short distance away.

Callaway forced them to drive to the hotel, police said, and told the male victim to go into the hotel and get the money from their room while the female victim stayed in the car. Once inside, the male victim called police, who responded to the 1100 block of Winterson Road at about 9:45 p.m.

Police said Callaway then forced the female victim to drive away but were able to stop the vehicle on Nursery Road near I-295 and take Callaway into custody.

Callaway is being charged with kidnapping, armed carjacking, reckless endangerment as well as other charges. He also has two open warrants and is being held. Police have not yet released his booking photo.
