Here are the top stories today in Glen Burnie:

  1. Earl Cleaveland Phillips, 9o, of Baltimore was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident. The accident occurred on Monday, July 25 at 12:58 p.m. The victim was seen jumping a curb and proceeding through a red light when he was hit by another car. The driver of the other car was not hurt. The police are still investigating this accident. (Patch)
  2. Tax preparer Elvis Ghomsi, 44, of Glen Dale, has been charged with filing false taxes. In 2018 he was paid by several people to prepare and file their taxes. He added false deductions, which in turn increased the tax refunds. Ghomsi is on probation and has paid $14,566.33 in restitution. The victims were required to reimburse the extra money they received. (WNAV)
  3. A woman from Arnold was stabbed by a sailfish while on a boat in Florida. The 73-year-old woman was watching as her boatmates were trying to reel in the sailfish. The sailfish leapt into the boat at stabbed her in the groin area. Pressure was applied and she was taken to the hospital and treated for her wounds. (WUSA)
  4. BGE has awarded a $75,000 grant toward the "Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) to support its Inclusive Ventures Program (IVP). This is a business education initiative that aims to help small and minority-owned, woman-owned, and veteran-owned businesses in Anne Arundel County succeed and grow." AAEDC was introduced in 2021 and hopes to increase business for its participants. (A.A. County)
