Pitbull Attacks 2 Adults, Is Killed By Taser

Two people sustained serious injuries Friday when a pitbull attacked them. The dog was killed when responding officers tried to fend off another attack using a taser, police say.

Officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department rushed to the 300 block of Highland Drive in Glen Burnie Friday after receiving reports of a pitbull attacking two adults, according to a release from the police department.

Once at the scene, officers found a 57-year-old woman suffering from multiple dog bite wounds in the entryway to an apartment building, the release states.

As the officers moved toward her, a pitbull ran toward the woman from the upper landing with an apparent intent to attack her, the release states. Officers distracted the dog, which then tried to attack them, according to police.

One of the officers deployed an electronic control device, or taser, and the attack stopped, according to the release.

"The dog was later found to be deceased," the release states.

The officers then gave emergency aid to the woman and found a second victim, a 53-year-old man, who was also suffering from dog bites.

Fire department and medical personnel arrived a short time later and began treating the victims. The man and woman were taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where they underwent emergency surgery on serious injuries that were not deemed life-threatening, the release states.

Officers learned the pair were dog-sitting the pitbull for one of their children. It was unclear Friday evening what caused the pitbull to attack, police said.

Animal Control recovered the dog, which is described as an unaltered male between two and three years old.
