Vandals Cause 61K-Gallon Sanitary Sewer Overflow: Official
Vandalism damaged a valve that caused a 61,000-gallon sanitary sewer overflow along Shoreland Drive in Glen Burnie, officials said.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Vandals likely damaged an air release valve that caused a 61,000-gallon sanitary sewer overflow in the 1000 block of Shoreland Drive in Glen Burnie on Wednesday afternoon, an Anne Arundel County official said.
The cause of the damage is believed to be vandalism, said Matt Diehl, public information officer for the county's Department of Public Works.
All wastewater was contained and no waterway was affected, Diehl said in a news release on Friday.

Signs alerting the community were posted and the area was cleaned and treated with lime.
The Maryland Department of Environment and the County Department of Health have been notified.

People coming in contact with the tainted ground should immediately wash well with soap and warm water. Clothing should also be washed.
