Lebanese Mountain Bread on Sundays

Chef Karim is bringing a little bit of home to his new home in Greenbelt.

On Sundays Greenbelters now get a taste of Lebanon ala Chef Karim, who brings his memories of mountain breakfasts to our wooded city.

From 10:30 a.m. to around 1 p.m., depending on when the dough runs out, Chef Karim can be found in front of the hand-tossing and cooking mountain bread with three choices of toppings.

Karim said he came up with the idea one morning when he was serving up a Lebanese breakfast at the café. He told himself something was missing, and he knew right away what it was — the bread, which Karim refers to as Zahthar, that he had eaten daily for breakfast in Lebanon.

Judging from the stream of customers who head on over to the chef's outdoor setup, the bread is a hit.

It's made from scratch, Karim said, no mixes.

The breakfast may get an expansion in the future, among the options Karim is considering are a warm chickpea salad and warm fava beans.
