• Kwanzaa is here and there are several ways to celebrate in the DC area (wtop.com) — One of this year’s Kwanzaa highlights for locals is the Free the Land Fun Run/Walk/Bike at Lake Artemisia Park in Greenbelt on Jan. 1 at noon. The broader D.C.-area lineup also features candlelighting ceremonies, performances, dinners, and family activities built around Kwanzaa’s seven principles of unity and cultural pride.

• FBI to Permanently Close J. Edgar Hoover Building » ¡Que Onda Magazine! (queondamagazine.com) — Greenbelt residents may recall that the FBI once chose a Greenbelt site for its future headquarters, but that plan was later dropped. Now, the bureau will permanently close the aging J. Edgar Hoover Building and instead move into the former USAID headquarters, a shift officials say will save billions and speed up the transition.
   

• Patel to close FBI's Hoover building permanently (washingtonexaminer.com) — Greenbelt gets a brief but important mention as the previously selected site for a new FBI headquarters, a plan now shelved as Director Kash Patel confirms the permanent closure of the J. Edgar Hoover Building. Instead, the FBI will move into the former USAID headquarters in D.C., a shift officials say will save billions and end decades of uncertainty over the bureau’s home base.
