School Supply Donations to Springhill Lake Elementary Drop

Greenbelt Federal Credit Union general manger says school supplies are still desperately needed for some Springhill Lake Elementary School students.

In time past, Greenbelt gave generously to the effort to collect school supplies for children in need at Springhill Lake Elementary School.

Now, with the start of school one week away, donations are down. They began to drop last year, Cynthia Comproni, General Manager of the credit union said, explaining the program started several years ago and received substantial donations initially.

Comproni thinks the lag is due to the economic downturn. This year, she said, “We’ve been doing it (taking donations) since last week and still are in desperate need.”

As a result, Comproni announced she’s added a day to the deadline for drop-offs. Now donors have until Thursday to place supplies in one of the two drop-off boxes, located in the credit union and in the .

  • 4 oz. bottles of Elmer's liquid glue
  • Bottles of liquid soap
  • Boxes of tissue
  • Boxes of baby wipes
  • Packs of #2 pencils
  • Red pencils
  • Colorific crayons, 16 count and 24 count
  • Packs of crayons, 24 count
  • Packs of Crayola washable markers
  • Packs of highlighters
  • Erasers
  • Disposable cameras
  • Ziploc bags — small, large, sandwich and gallon size
  • Scissors (Fiskars brand recommended)
  • Book covers (No stick-on book covers please)
  • Post-it notes
  • Packs of lined notebook paper (Wide ruled)
  • Black/white composition books
  • Folders with two pockets
  • 1 1/2-inch & 2-inch binders
  • Dividers
  • Pencil pouches
  • Small school boxes
  • Report covers
  • Protractors and compasses
  • Rulers with metric and standard scales
  • $15.00 cooking fees

Please, no pencil sharpeners or mechanical pencils.
