Laurel July 4th Committee Holding Chick-fil-A, Golf, Bull Roast Fundraisers

The Laurel Fourth of July Committee is holding a series of fundraisers to benefit the city's 2013 Independence Day Celebration, set for Saturday, July 6.

Chick-fil-A event

On Thursday, March 28 from 4-9 p.m., drop by the Laurel Chick-fil-A (13600 Baltimore Ave. at Contee Road), where management will be donating 20 percent of the evening's proceeds to the celebration. Just say you're there to benefit the Laurel Fourth of July Committee when you place your order.

Tampico Grill fundraiser

All day on Wednesday, April 3, residents are invited to visit Laurel's Tampico Grill restaurant (42 Washington Blvd.), where management will generously donate 35 percent of pre-tax proceeds to the committee. All you need to do is show up and let them know you are there for the Laurel Fourth of July Committee.

Indoor yard sale

On Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., the committee is holding an indoor yard sale at the Laurel Armory (422 Montgomery St.). The cost of a table is $15 (or $25 for two tables). Shoppers get in for free, and the committee will have homemade baked goods and other refreshments on hand. All proceeds will go to help fund your Independence Day Celebration which will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013. To reserve a table, call Judy at 301-604-8149 or Virginia at 301-317-8936.

Bull roast

Also on Saturday, April 13, the committee is hosting a bull roast from 6 p.m. to midnight at American Legion Post 60 (2 Main St., Laurel). The cost of the ticket—$35 in advance, $40 at the door—includes food, draft beer, and entertainment by HighTest. The committee is also offering a 50/50 raffle and other prizes throughout the evening. Golf tournament

On Monday, May 6, the committee is hosting the annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament at Bowie Golf Course in Bowie. The event is $85 per player and includes breakfast at 8 a.m., greens/cart/range fees, contests with prizes, and a lunch and happy hour after the event. Hole sponsorships are are also available for $150 per hole, and there will be three cars and one Harley-Davidson motorcycle on offer as hole-in-one prizes. The registration deadline is April 29. Firework sponsorship

You can also sponsor and/or dedicate a firework for the city's Independence Day fireworks show. All sponsors, dedications and memorials will be listed on the committee's website and announced throughout the celebration. The cost—$20 a firework—is tax deductible. Find a copy of the registration form on the committee's website at or stop by the Laurel Municipal Center and pick up a form in the front lobby.

T-shirt design competition

Get Your Original Design on the Official Laurel 4th of July T-Shirt! The Laurel Fourth of July Committee invites you to take out your markers, paintbrush or computer and design the Inaugural Laurel 4th of July T-shirt. The winning design will be printed in color on t-shirts, complete with your signature, and sold at various City of Laurel events and fundraisers. The winning artist will also receive a $50 gift card to a popular local or national retail business (to be announced), a prime reserved spot to watch the fireworks and a complimentary t-shirt. 

The entry rules are as follows: all designs must be entirely original (i.e. no clip art, photos you didn’t take, etc.); each entry must be accompanied by a separate registration form and a $2 entry fee; please mail your entry fee (check or money order) and design to: Laurel 4th of July Committee, P.O. Box 416, Laurel, MD 20725 OR drop it off at Laurel Municipal Center, 8103 Sandy Spring Road, 20707. Entry fees support the 2013 Laurel Independence Day Celebration. You may also email your design (.jpg or .pdf file) to: FourthofJuly@laurel.md.us. If you decide to mail or drop off a paper/printout of your design, please send a color copy vs. your original. Please be aware we will need an electronic version of the winning design to produce the t-shirt. All entries must be received no later than May 15, 2013
