February was a fun month, with some new businesses coming to town, some intrigue over at Fort Meade and a heartwarming story of love.

CVS Eyes New Store at Odenton Gateway

We learned that the pharmacy in the Odenton Shopping Center would likely close and move across the street to the new development alongside the Johns Hopkins/Anne Arundel Health medical building. The store in the Odenton Shopping Center remains open for now while the new location is under construction.

For much of 2012, Fort Meade was a focus of national attention as the alleged Wikileaks source made frequent court appearances. His first came in February, when he entered a not guilty plea. His presence on base attracted protesters near the installation gates.

Council Struggles to Fill District 1 Seat

After former council member Daryl Jones was sent to prison, the county council endured a long process to fill his District 1 seat. Members had more than 100 rounds of voting but remained deadlocked throughout the month, unable to decide between Peter Smith and Mike Wagner.

Oasis Consignment Shop Opens in Odenton

One of the first new businesses of 2012 opened in the Academy Junction shopping center, offering a spot to get bargains on women's clothing, purses and accessories. 

Old Mill Tops Unbeaten Arundel at the Buzzer

It was a magical season for the Arundel basketball team, but a shot at a perfect record was stifled when Old Mill scored on this last-second shot. 

65 Years of 'I Love You'

I had the pleasure of interviewing George and Beverlee Thomas, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day. Their advice to married couples was to say "I love you" every day, and to never go to bed angry. Sadly, Beverlee passed away in June after a battle with cancer.
