It's December now, so it's easy to forget the sweltering days we endured in June.

Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Law

“Obamacare” got a boost when the Supreme Court said the new Affordable Care Act was constitutional. Patch got reaction from residents of west Anne Arundel County. 

Town Center Committee Supports New Apartments

Another apartment development got the go-ahead from Odenton’s development review board. The 239-unit project at Nevada and Hale Streets is one of many similar projects in the pipeline.

Derecho Storm Plows Through

A powerful storm band raced across the eastern half of the United States and hit Maryland hard, with hurricane-force winds knocking down trees and disrupting electricity service for hundreds of thousands of people in the state. 

Five Hurt After Violence Erupts at Graduation Party

Police said one person was shot and three others were stabbed during a part on Citadel Drive. They had been seeking one man in connection to the case and have not made any arrests. 

Extreme Heat

The heat was intense in June, as the county opened cooling centers and forced many health officials to issue warnings. 

History Behind the Walls at Fort Meade

Crews working on renovations at barracks on the Army installation found letters leftover from the days of WWII. Some of the letters were unopened. Those that were offered a glimpse into the thoughts of soldiers serving at Fort Meade during the great conflict. 

Old Mill Grad Signs With Orioles

After a stellar pitching career at Old Mill High, Josh Hader began his quest to play pro ball. His hometown team signed him to a contract and he began immediate workouts with the Orioles’ minor league clubs. 

Maryland Live! Opens

After considerable drama with the legislature in 2010, the new casino at Arundel Mills opened on June 7 with a huge crowd. Months later, voters in the state would approve live table games and 24-hour gambling.
