2012 in Review: Top Stories from October

Wegmans Opens 

With great fanfare, the big store in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre opened its doors to thousands of customers. It's proven to be one of the most popular destinations in the area. 

Sandy Hits

Tens of thousands of people lost power in the area as Hurricane Sandy beared down on the east coast. Maryland was spared the worst of the storm, which ravaged areas of New Jersey and New York. 

Long Lines for Early Voting

Voters were eager to cast their ballots in the presidential election, and many waited in line for hours during the early voting period. The superstorm Sandy forced the cancellation of voting on some days, but the state extended voting in response. 

Gambrills Man Sentenced in Child Porn Case

Robert Jay Hudson was sentenced to eight years in jail after prosecutors said police seized 627 images, including some depicting "sadistic" sexual abuse of children.

It was an exciting time for baseball fans in the area, as both the Orioles and Nationals earned trips to the postseason. Unfortunately, both team's endured tough season-ending losses in the fifth and final game of the division series.
