Arundel High Celebrates Strong First Marking Period

Honor roll students gathered for a special assembly on a day when the school announced that boys and girls in every grade level averaged a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

Arundel High School students and staff Friday celebrated an uptick in academic performance, after they learned of some of the highest quarterly grade point averages in recent history.

Honor roll students gathered for a special morning assembly featuring music and a guest speaker, as Principal Sharon Stratton revealed a school-wide grade point average of 3.01 for the first quarter. She said it was the first time that both boys and girls in every grade level earned a 3.0 or higher.

"I was just jumping up and down in my office today," Stratton told a morning assembly of honor students.

The assembly was a chance for honor students to get a deserved break from classes, but also served as a showcase for several student groups. The music department showed off the newly-formed guitar ensemble, which performed a version of Neil Young's Heart of Gold.

The choir and jazz ensemble also played, and the school's improvisational comedy troupe "Arundel SWAT" gave a sneak peak of its upcoming performance on Nov. 30.
