From the Editor: March Madness Mascot Bracket FAIL
A team's mascot and its ferocity is no way to pick a bracket.

Last week, March Madness monopolized water cooler conversations, radio stations and restaurant televisions.
As the hysteria overtook almost every aspect of life, I decided to mix things up a bit by filling out my bracket based on the ferocity of a team's mascot and not their prowess on the court. I knew it was risky picking a Final Four that included Xavier and Notre Dame, but I couldn't have anticipated the insanity of this year's tournament.Â
Here are some of the more outrageous picks that have ruined my bracket, as well as some other upsets that have left sports fans speechless.Â

1. St. John's, Kansas State and Michigan State all go down
With mascots like the Red Storm, Wildcats and Trojans, how could I pick them to lose? Unfortunately for my bracket, each team highly underperformed, ruining my entire Southeastern bracket. All it took was a wonderful upset by Butler to kick my Pittsburgh pick out of the contest too.Â

2. Riding the Aztecs to victory
The San Diego State Aztecs came into this year's tournament 0-6, but as a No. 2 seed, they've surprised many by making their way to the Sweet 16. With a fearsome mascot, I've picked them to go all the way. I hope they can pull off a win against UConn on Thursday night.
3. Virginia is for basketball
Virginia has more teams in the Sweet 16 than other traditional powerhouse conferences. Yes, you read that correctly. With Richmond going up against the dynasty of Kansas and VCU taking on the stout defense of Florida State, the Cinderella story may be short-lived, but it's been a wild ride.
However, if both squads can pull off the upset, we'll get to see an all-Virginia matchup in the Southwestern conference in the Elite Eight.Â
Take a look at the catastrophe that is my bracket and let me know what you think.Â
