Old Mill's Unlikely Run, Severn's Census Numbers and Gay Marriage Protestors

A brief rundown of the week that was.

The temperature in Severn began to heat up, and so did the dialogue surrounding same-sex marrage decisions throughout Maryland.

As reported , the efforts of those in favor of the bill faced an unexpected hiccup as delegates either didn't show, or didn't vote. The hot-button issue had remained almost exclusively in Annapolis, that is, until opponents to same-sex marriage held a on Arundel Mills Boulevard. 

We're still investigating, but it appears someone who disagreed with the picketers approached them and did some pushing or shoving. We're trying to verify information, but we've got some intersting photos from the "scuffle."

Severn still remains one of the most diverse towns in Anne Arundel County, and as BRAC continues to develop, residents can expect a higher density in population and diversity. 

Over the past ten years, the Latino and Asian population both experienced over a 100 percent increase, and that's not including those with mixed ethnic backgrounds.

One of Old Mill's stellar athletes recently committed to play football for Towson University, but despite his ferociuos abilities on the field, remains a relatively calm individual.

The 6-foot, 195 pound senior will play linebacker for the Tigers, but hopes to continue his passions in various arenas, like music and faith.

"God is a number one priority," said McCargo during the interview.

Unlike many athletes in his sport, he also expressed a love for soccer, saying that he watched almost every game of the World Cup with his friends. He even performs in the school's . 

A Cinderella Story

Well, almost. 

Old Mill's deep run into the playoffs came to an end Wednesday night when they fell to North Point in Waldorf.

As a No. 12 seed, the Patriots upset , No. 5, and , No. 4, before succombing to the offensive explosiveness of the Eagles. 

"It just wasn't our day," said Joe McCargo, the team's second leading scorer of the season.
