Over-Hyped Storms, PatchCasts and Wrestling Mania

A brief look at the week that was.

All Hype, No Bite

This past week proved to be an eventful one on Severn Patch. Residents throughout the area were still overcoming the remnants of a treacherous storm that bombarded its way through Anne Arundel County. And with that, came an unnecessarily high amount of anticipation for future weather.

As news of another wintery maelstrom approached, everyone in Severn, and the state for that matter, went on high alert. Over 250,000 lost power with last week's storm, so BGE set out bright and early to counter any possible mishaps.

Hundreds of personnel were deployed throughout the state in case of an emergency, but with temperatures only hovering around 40 degrees, all Severn got, was a little wet.

PatchCasts

As you may have witnessed this week, Severn Patch is getting touched up quite a bit with some new content, including our daily PatchCasts. Each post allows you to stay connected with local Patches outside of Severn, and provides a unique, broadcast-style take on the news near you.

Bowie Patch editor, Josh Flynn, has done a great job narrating the posts, and we're lucky to have him editing each PatchCast on a daily basis.

Wrestle Mania

As the winter sports season come to a close, it seems Archbishop Spalding's wrestling team is making its intentions clear to competing squads from around the state. As the #1 ranked team in Maryland, Archbishop Spalding has stood up and defeated powerhouses like Old Mill, McDonough and John Carroll High Schools.

Keep checking in on Severn Patch to see how Spalding's Girls Basketball and Wrestling teams will as they make a push into the state playoff picture.

Nitrix

In case you missed it, be sure to read our story of a local band, Nitrix. The band's drummer died in a car accident in the 80's,  but its legacy lives on through a new generation's passion for music.

That's all for now. Check back next week for a casual re-cap at the week that was.
