Rematch Between Old Mill and Arundel Postponed

Strong winds caused power outages throughout the area yesterday, delaying the rematch between the Patriots and Wildcats until 4 p.m. today.

Due to a power outage at Arundel High School caused by yesterday's stormy winds, the basketball between Old Mill and the Wildcats has been moved to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Originally scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., the MPSSAA Class 4A Basketball State Tournament went on hold for the Patriots, who will have to wait a few more hours before seeking redemption after the two-point defeat to the Wildcats just 11 days ago.

Despite Joe McCargo's 31 points in their last meeting, the Patriots were unable to overcome some early defensive lapses that ultimately cost them the game.

Head Coach Greg Smith this past week and hopes his team can offer some new looks to counter the Wildcats' perimeter game.

The storm, which caused the outages, lasted for only a few hours but caused more than 80,000 power outages, according to a report from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE).

“Initial reports from our crews in the field are that yesterday’s windstorm–with sustained gusts of up to 68 miles per hour in some cases –caused more system damage than the heavy, wet snow storm we experienced in January," according to the BGE release.

Patch will be on hand to cover the opening round of the state playoffs, so stay tuned for scores and updates later this weekend.
