School Board to Review Crofton Redistricting Plan

Superintendent Kevin Maxwell will submit his recommended plan for the redistricting of Crofton schools.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education will get its first look Tuesday at proposed redistricting plan for Crofton schools.

Superintendent Kevin Maxwell will present his recommended plan, which is identical to the one drawn up by a redistricting committee in October.

School officials have sought redistricting in the area due to overcrowding at several schools, particularly Nantucket Elementary.

The plan, according to a press release, is as follows:

-Moving students who live in the area of Chelmsford Drive and Johns Hopkins Drive from Nantucket to Crofton Meadows elementary schools. (To be put into effect in August, 2014.)

-Moving students in the area of Walden Drive from Nantucket Elementary to Crofton Elementary. (To be put into effect in August, 2015.)

The redistricting committee had been asked to consider drawing up boundaries for the proposed “Evergreen” Elementary School, but declined to present a plan due to uncertainty over the future of the school.

The school board will review Maxwell’s plan and decide by January whether to take it to a public hearing. It could hear other proposals in the meantime. The board must adopt a redistricting plan by April.
