2 Firefighters Hurt In Baltimore County Apartment Blaze: Officials

Two firefighters were hurt in a Baltimore County apartment blaze, officials said. Improperly discarded smoking materials sparked the flames.

BOWLEYS QUARTERS, MD — Two firefighters were hurt Saturday while battling an apartment blaze in southeastern Baltimore County, officials announced.

Crews said one firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The other had minor injuries. Both are expected to survive.

The American Red Cross is assisting an undisclosed number of displaced residents, officials said.

Investigators said improperly discarded smoking materials outside the building caused the two-alarm fire.

First responders said they were called to the Unit Block of Starwood Court, located in the Seneca Bay Apartments.

Crews called it a "fast moving apartment fire" with "heavy fire in [the] roof." Photos from the scene show the roof burned through down to the studs in some places.
