5 Baltimore County High Schools Among Nation’s Best: U.S. News Ranking

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Five Baltimore County public high schools were among Maryland's 25 best in a U.S. News & World Report ranking released Tuesday.

Baltimore County Public Schools also has Maryland's highest-rated high school.

Here are where BCPS said its facilities ranked statewide:

• Eastern Technical High – No. 1 in Maryland, No. 33 nationally in magnet rankings (up from No. 2 in Maryland, No. 42 nationally in magnet rankings in 2023)
• Western Tech – No. 8 in Maryland, No. 80 nationally in magnet rankings (up from No. 11 in Maryland, No. 87 nationally in magnet rankings in 2023)
• Carver Center – No. 13 in Maryland, No. 106 nationally in magnet rankings (up from No. 15 in Maryland, No. 109 nationally in magnet rankings in 2023)
• Towson High – No. 16 in Maryland, No. 117 nationally in magnet rankings (up from No. 29 in Maryland, No. 178 nationally in magnet rankings in 2023)
• Hereford High – No. 21 in Maryland (ranked No. 23 in Maryland in 2023)
• Pikesville High – No. 39 in Maryland (up from No. 112 in Maryland in 2023)
• Catonsville High – No. 53 in Maryland (up from No. 122 in Maryland in 2023)
• Perry Hall High – No. 80 in Maryland (up from No. 148 in Maryland in 2023)
• Sparrows Point High – No. 102 in Maryland (up from No. 159 in Maryland in 2023)
• Franklin High – No. 119 in Maryland (ranked No. 107 in Maryland in 2023)
• Patapsco High – No. 126 in Maryland (up from being unranked in 2023)
• Loch Raven High – No. 134 in Maryland (up from No. 153 in Maryland in 2023)
• Kenwood High — No. 136 in Maryland (up from being unranked in 2023)
• Dulaney High – No. 143 in Maryland (ranked No. 52 in Maryland in 2023)
• Randallstown High – No. 164 in Maryland (up from being unranked in 2023)
• Chesapeake High – No. 170 in Maryland (up from being unranked in 2023)

The rest of the county's high schools were ranked lower and lacked an exact score or weren't ranked at all.

“We are proud, as always, of the achievements of the students and staff of our high schools,” BCPS Superintendent Myriam Rogers said in a press release. “We are especially pleased this year to see so many of our schools rise in the U.S. News & World Report rankings. We celebrate these results while we continue working to ensure that all our students are learning and growing at schools that are the best in Maryland and the nation.”

About 39 percent of Maryland high schools were ranked in the top 25 percent nationwide. That's the fourth-highest ratio in the country behind only Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments. They also have strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.
