America's VetDogs 5K Slated For April 24 On Avenue At White Marsh

A race benefiting veterans and their dogs is coming to The Avenue at White Marsh.

WHITE MARSH, MD — The Avenue at White Marsh is hosting an event this weekend where dogs are welcome.

America's VetDogs will sponsor the Maryland Run & Dog Walk on Sunday, April 24.

Participants can choose to run a timed 5K race, walk the 5K course or engage in the 2-mile family-friendly walk with or without their pup, according to organizers. A virtual option is also available from April 16 to 14.

For those participating in person, the 5K course travels around the White Marsh Mall and The Avenue at White Marsh, while the 2-mile walk includes The Avenue and neighboring roads like Sandpiper Circle.

Registration is $25 for children under 18 and $35 for people 18 and older. Registration the day of the race is $40. Here is how to register.

Proceeds will help America’s VetDogs, a nonprofit that provides service dogs for veterans and first responders with disabilities. It costs about $50,000 to train and place the dogs, who are given for free to those who served their country, according to the America's VetDogs mission statement.

Here is the schedule of events for race day on Sunday, April 24:

  • 8 a.m. — Registration desk opens
  • 9 a.m. — Welcome program, including Color Guard, National Anthem and graduate speaker
  • 9:30 a.m. — 5K timed race begins, 5K walk to follow, 2-mile dog walk to begin last
  • 9:35 a.m. — Timed 5K dog race begins dog walk to follow
  • 10:30 a.m. — Post-race awards ceremony, awards and closing remarks
