WHITE MARSH, MD — Officials think a driver fled the scene after recently crashing into a White Marsh pond, firefighters said Thursday. Crews had initially thought they were searching the water for a victim.

The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company said it responded to Richardson Farms, located at 5900 Ebenezer Road, on Nov. 5 at 5:42 p.m. for a vehicle that drove into the water.

The vehicle is not related to Richardson Farms, the business said. Officials didn't specify what kind of vehicle it was.

By 6:05 p.m., firefighters determined that the pond is about 40 feet deep, requiring a rescue boat and divers to search the water.

Crews found the vehicle at 6:20 p.m., and divers said they found nobody inside the vehicle at 6:30 p.m.

Search teams said they didn't find anybody in the water by 7:40 p.m., so the operation transitioned its focus to recovering the driver's body with the help of Baltimore County Police Department divers.

Officials now believe the driver had fled, meaning there was not a body to find.

"To be clear no persons were found at any time here at the pond," Richardson Farms said on Facebook on Nov. 6. "We believe anyone involved fled the scene. One of our tractors was used to pull the vehicle out of the pond."

Richardson Farms thanked first responders for their assistance.

"A special thanks was provided to White Marsh Vol for providing site services at this long duration incident," Richardson Farms said. "Police, Fire and Tow truck drivers appreciate the food, drinks and yes even the toilet that nobody thinks about during long calls."

Additional photos from the scene are posted on the Richardson Farms and Baltimore County Fire Department Facebook pages.
