Fatal Fire Claims Woman And Dog, Hurts Man In Baltimore County: Report
A fatal fire claimed a woman and a dog in Baltimore County, officials said. A man was also hospitalized.
DUNDALK, MD — A fatal house fire claimed a woman and a dog Monday in Dundalk, officials said.
Firefighters on Tuesday identified the late woman as 70-year-old Barbara Spokus of Dundalk.
Medics said a man was also hospitalized in critical condition.

Improperly discarded smoking materials caused the one-alarm blaze, investigators said.
Crews said they were called to the 3100 block of Shortway around 2:30 a.m.

First responders said they arrived three minutes later and found fire coming from the home.
Firefighters said they then entered the house and found the woman dead in the living room.
Medics said they took the injured man, who escaped the fire, to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore with serious injuries.
