Perry Hall Native Made Jewelry For Oscars

Rachel Mulherin was one of 36 artists whose work was featured in 100 gift bags at the Academy Awards.

A Perry Hall native didn't get to experience the red carpet glitz herself, but her jewelry made it big on Hollywood's greatest stage.

Rachel Mulherin was one of 36 artists who made items for 100 celebrity gift bags for Oscar nominees and presenters on Feb. 22 and 23, before the Academy Awards.

The Canton resident's gift, a turquoise sparkle pendant, isn't her first for an award show—she has made similar items for Golden Globes attendees.

A 2004 graduate of Perry Hall High School, Mulherin said she first got into making jewelry while attending Towson University.

"My mother's friend, who has since passed, got her into jewelry making," she said in an email. "So my mom and I started making jewelry for fun, and then on my own I took it to the next level."
