State Police Investigating Bel Air Man's Suicide On 95

Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a Bel Air man who killed himself Tuesday during a traffic stop on I-95 near White Marsh Boulevard.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a relative of the man reporting a stolen vehicle, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police. The relative told police he was following the vehicle as it headed towards I-95.

Troopers located the 1999 Saturn, being driven by a 23-year-old Bel Air resident, travelling on I-95 southbound near the exit for White Marsh Boulevard, the release states.

The man pulled over when signaled and an officer took the keys from the the vehicle then returned to his patrol car to speak with the driver's relative, the release states.

Moments later, another trooper arrived and went to check on the driver but found him slumped in the drivers seat with a gunshot wound to the head. A .22-caliber Ruger was found in the driver's lap, the release states.

Emergency medical personnel from Baltimore County Fire Department transported the man to Franklin Square Hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel, according to the release. An autopsy is being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Investigators from the State Police JFK Barrack are conducting the
investigation, the release states. Preliminary investigation indicated the 1999 Saturn belongs to the man's grandparents. He did not have permission to use the car, police said.
