PERRY HALL, MD — A Baltimore County teacher was accused of sexually abusing a minor at a school, authorities said.

The Baltimore County Police Department on Wednesday announced the arrest of Sean Brooks, 40, of Bel Air.

Brooks is a physical education teacher at Perry Hall High School, Baltimore County Public Schools said. BCPS hired him in August 2017, and he has worked at Perry Hall High ever since.

"BCPS is fully cooperating with law enforcement on this matter and Mr. Brooks is on administrative leave and is barred from BCPS property," Principal Abbey Campbell said in a Wednesday letter to the school community.

Court records show that Brooks faces three counts of sexually abusing a minor. The file alleges that the abuse happened sometime between Aug. 29, 2022, and March 1 of this year.

"These charges are deeply disturbing, and this alleged behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Campbell said.

The records say a judge issued an arrest warrant for Brooks on Monday, and it was served on Wednesday.

Police said Brooks is currently being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. He has a bond hearing Thursday at 1 p.m. in Towson District Court, where a judge will decide if he remains in jail until his trial.

"I understand that students and staff who know Mr. Brooks may have questions and concerns about this arrest and may need to speak with someone to process their feelings in a safe space," Campbell said. "Ensuring a safe learning environment for our students is our top priority."

Campbell said anybody who needs support can call 443-809-5110. She also offered this resource sheet for talking with children about abuse.

Campbell urged anybody who may have information or may know other potential victims to call the Baltimore County Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit at 410-887-7720 or the Department of Social Services at 410-887-8463(TIME).
