Rockville Man Dies, Multiple Injured In Crash With Ride On Bus

UPDATES: Police have identified the driver who died after crashing into the back of a Ride On bus in Rockville Thursday night.

(Updated at 1:05 p.m. Friday): ROCKVILLE, MD — A Rockville man died after he crashed into the rear of a Ride On bus Thursday night, Montgomery County Police said. The bus driver and three passengers were injured and transported to area hospitals.

The accident occurred just after 8 p.m. in the area of Norbeck and Avery roads in Rockville, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus was stopped on eastbound Norbeck Road when a man driving a Honda Element struck the bus, police said.

The driver of the Honda—identified as Durmus Kantar, 49, of Russett Road—was transported to Suburban Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Ride On bus driver was Rosa Maria Rodriguez, 57, of Montgomery Village, police said. She was transported to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three bus passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They have been identified as:

  • Monique Ayonah Williams, 24, of Silver Spring was transported to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center.
  • Avelyn Guinano, 48, of Rockville was transported to MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.
  • He Jin Ou, 56, of Rockville was transported to MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.
