467 Child Care Facilities Receive $10M In Coronavirus Grants
The funds will help cover reopening costs for hundreds of Montgomery County child care facilities.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County has doled out $10 million to hundreds of child care facilities hit by the coronavirus pandemic, County Executive Marc Elrich announced Wednesday.
The Child Care Recovery Program — approved by the County Council in June — is designed to help offset reopening costs and revenue losses related to the public health crisis. As of Wednesday, 467 licensed child care facilities have received grants.
"Providing safe child care, which is essential for so many of our residents — especially during this pandemic, is challenging and costly," said Elrich. "I am pleased we are able to provide some relief for this vital requirement during these difficult times."

The maximum grant amounts are $75,000 for a single child care site, $150,000 for two sites, $200,000 for three sites, and $250,000 for four or more sites.
Priority was given to programs serving families with low-incomes and children with special needs. Sites in targeted zip codes — including 20877, 20886, 20902, 20866, and 20906 — and programs that participate in Maryland EXCELS were also prioritized.
