Baby Murdered By Rockville Mother: Police

A Rockville woman was arrested for fatally abusing her 2-month-old, Montgomery County Police said.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Rockville woman has been charged with murder in the death of her infant daughter, police announced Thursday.

Rebecca D. Briones, 31, of North Adams Street was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

Police said they were called to the Briones residence on February 21. Briones told officers that her 2-month-old daughter, Lissana, was unresponsive. Lissana was flown to Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she died that night, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Lissana and ruled the manner of death as homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries on September 25, police said.

Detectives interviewed Briones on December 11, and she admitted that she shook Lissana and threw her on to the bed, police said. Briones said she immediately called 9-1-1 after discovering Lissana was unresponsive during a nap.
