County Has Tested 21% Of Population; Coronavirus Cases Hit 19,806
Montgomery County added 73 new coronavirus cases and zero new deaths on Friday, Aug. 28.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Montgomery County increased by 73 to 19,806, according to state data released Friday, while the death toll remained at 779.
The fatality count does not include the 39 others whose deaths were linked to the virus, but never confirmed by a lab test. They are considered "probable deaths" — and will not be added to the official total until a lab can confirm them.
The county continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 25,963, according to the latest figures.

Statewide, there have been 106,664 confirmed cases, 3,593 deaths, and 143 "probable deaths."
Of the 412 currently hospitalized for the virus, 106 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The state's test positivity rate stands at 3.32 percent. The positivity rate in Montgomery County is 2.42 percent.

To date, the county has tested 21.1 percent of its population.
