Firefighters Made Vulgar Comments, Custodians Claim
Montgomery County firefighters allegedly made vulgar remarks to custodial staff, including sexual comments and opinions regarding DACA.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Chief Scott Goldstein wrote a memo to the department calling attention to multiple instances where firefighters allegedly made inappropriate remarks to custodial staff, including vulgar sexual comments and opinions regarding diverse communities.
Multiple members of the contract custodial staff reported inappropriate behavior from firefighters at numerous stations, Goldstein said in the department-wide email sent Friday.
"While I know many FRS folks at these county stations welcome and support the custodial staff, the inappropriate actions of a few destroy the work of many," Goldstein said.

In the memo obtained by ABC 7 News, Goldstein said the unprofessional interactions include: "Flirtatious comments, a feeling of un-welcomeness, unprofessional conversations, comments/personal opinions regarding DACA, negative comments regarding diverse neighboring communities, body language that suggest exclusion and vulgar inappropriate sexual comments."
"The folks who identified these issues did not desire to move forward with filing a complaint," Goldstein told NBC Washington. "I felt very significantly, as I still do here today, that these actions are inappropriate."
