2018 Gold Medalist Haley Skarupa To Speak At Rockville Graduation
Rockville native and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Haley Skarupa will speak at Thomas S. Wootton High School's graduation, MCPS announced.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Rockville native and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Haley Skarupa will speak at the Thomas S. Wootton High School graduation on Wednesday, May 30, Montgomery County Public Schools announced.
The graduation will take place at the school at 2:30 p.m.
Skarupa, 24, graduated Wootton in 2012 and plays forward for the USA women's ice hockey team. She is the first woman from the D.C. metro area to go to the Olympics for hockey, and wore gold after the U.S. women's hockey team beat Canada in a nail-biting shootout in February.

Born in Washington, D.C., Skarupa calls Rockville home. She attended Thomas S. Wootton High School and Boston College. This was her first time competing at the Olympics. She had one shot on goal in the game.

MCPS posted the speaker list online Tuesday. Other speakers include: Congressman Jamie Raskin at Albert Einstein High School; Attorney General Brian Frosh at John F. Kennedy High School and more.
