Man Robs Victim On Ride On Bus, Hit By Car While Fleeing

Police are searching for a man who robbed a Ride On bus passenger during a route in Rockville.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Police are searching for a man who robbed a Ride On bus passenger during a route in Rockville.

Detectives said the robbery occurred at about 2:23 p.m. April 13 while the bus was traveling westbound on East Gude Drive, approaching Taft Street.

The suspect was sitting next to the 34-year-old man on the back of the bus. During the ride, the suspect stole the victim's wallet, police said. The victim realized the theft occurred and attempted to get his wallet back. A struggle ensued between the two men, police said.

The bus driver stopped the bus because of the fight. The suspect fled from the bus and the victim pursued him at the the intersection of East Gude Drive and Taft Street.

The suspect fled across the westbound lanes of East Gude Drive and was struck by a green colored Subaru SUV, police said. He continued to flee the area after he was hit.

The driver of the Subaru paused but then continued down the roadway, failing to remain on the scene of the collision, police said.

Detectives released video of the robbery and video of the collision involving the robbery suspect and Subaru. Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify both the robbery suspect and vehicle driver.
