Fire and rescue units used air bags and cribbing and took about 45 minutes to free the man's leg from under the train and move him to an ambulance, Garcia said. He was taken to the trauma center at Suburban Hospital.

The station was closed and cleared of customers at 12:41 p.m. as trains passed through without stopping, McNeil said. The station reopened at 1:19 p.m. but, as of 4:55 p.m., Red Line trains continued to use a single track between the Twinbrook and Shady Grove stations, causing service delays as Metro Transit Police continued their investigation.
