MoCo 2020 Election Voting: Mail-In Ballots, Drop Box Sites, More

Montgomery County voters must soon decide how and when they will cast their ballots for the 2020 general election.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Heading into what promises to be an unprecedented and nerve-wracking presidential election, voters must soon decide how and when they will cast their ballots.

Early voting in Maryland starts Oct. 26 and ends Nov. 2. Election Day is Nov. 3.

  • Vote by mail
    • First, request a mail-in ballot from the State Board of Elections or your local board
      • Valid Maryland ID is required
      • Election officials must receive the request by Oct. 20 (leave five businesses days for USPS to deliver the request)
    • Your mail-in ballot must be mailed or dropped in a designated drop box location by 8 p.m. on Election Day
  • Vote in person
    • This can be done during the early voting period or on Election Day, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
      • On early voting days, cast your ballot at one of Montgomery County's voting centers (click here for locations)
        • The State Board of Elections says the best time to vote is on weekends
    • On Election Day, cast your ballot at one of Montgomery County's voting centers
      • Voters will be required to stand six feet apart and the number of people inside voting centers will be capped (which may result in lines and wait times)
        • The State Board of Elections says the best time to vote is between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Haven't Registered To Vote?

Visit elections.maryland.gov to register to vote or update your registration information. The deadline is Oct. 13.

You can also register to vote or update your information in person during early voting or on Election Day. If you update your address on Nov. 3, you'll be asked to complete a provisional ballot.
