Pancakes to Fight Cancer

IHOP offers free pancakes for donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If you don’t have time for breakfast, consider breakfast for dinner on Tuesday. And when you think breakfast (or dinner), think pancakes. It’s the return of National Pancake Day.

From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. you can indulge in a short stack of pancakes from International House of Pancakes in return for a donation to the National Capital Area Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Rockville staff and managers are selling paper icons for a suggested donation of $1 each. LLS volunteers will be on hand Tuesday to collect donations and distribute information about the organization.

Their inspiration is Avery, a 6-year-old leukemia survivor and National Pancake Day Honored Hero, who loves swimming, vanilla ice cream and playing with her brother, Max, and sister, Taylor. Avery was diagnosed two weeks before her 4th birthday, in March 2009. After two years of chemotherapy, Avery completed her treatment on June 11.
