Police Seek Witnesses, Video From Fatal Clarksburg Crash

Anyone who saw or has video of a May 13 fatal crash in Clarksburg is asked to contact Maryland State Police.

CLARKSBURG, MD — Anyone who saw or has video of a May 13 fatal crash in Clarksburg is asked to contact Maryland State Police.

The agency on Wednesday asked for the public’s assistance as it continues to investigate the crash that occurred about 10:10 a.m. on May 13 on southbound Interstate 270 at Route 109.

According to a preliminary investigation, a dump truck and a 2019 Ford Transit were involved in a crash. The dump truck, driven by Rodney Lee Gibson, 54, of Frederick, then struck a bridge abutment and overturned into a ravine.

Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel. No other injuries were reported.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash, with help from troopers in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
