Report: Rockville Man With Tourette’s Denied Flight for Saying ‘Bomb’

Fox 5 reports that the 19-year-old told the airliner about his 'ticking,' the vocalizing of thoughts he's trying to suppress.

A Rockville man suffering from Tourette's syndrome was barred from a JetBlue flight last week for repeatedly saying “bomb,” several news outlets have reported.

Michael Doyle, 19, was travelling from Washington to San Juan, Puerto Rico in order to participate in a Revolutionary War reenactment, Doyle told Fox 5.

Doyle said he told the airliner about his “ticking”—the frequent outbursts and vocalizing of thoughts he’s trying to suppress—prior to the flight.

In a statement given to the New York Daily News, Jet Blue said pilots had deemed Doyle to be a safety concern but:

"After further investigation, the situation was deemed innocuous and our special services team reached out to work with the customer directly to coordinate alternative travel arrangements.”

Jet Blue offered the man a round-trip ticket for another flight, the Daily News reports.
