Rockville Celebrates Memorial Day 2017: Taste Of Rockville, Music, Parade

Rockville city offices will be closed for Memorial Day on May 29. Celebrate all weekend with Hometown Holidays Music Festival and a parade.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Rockville City Hall and some city facilities will be closed Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day. Recycling, yard waste and refuse collection will be made one day later throughout the holiday week. Find more information at www.rockvillemd.gov/recycling-refuse.

Some of Rockville's favorite restaurants will take part in Taste of Rockville, on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28, as part of the city's 29th annual Hometown Holidays Music Fest. Taste of Rockville features 17 local restaurants showcasing samples from their menus ranging from ahi tuna to aloo saag, jambalaya to jumbo cookies, and pizza to palak paneer.

Hometown Holidays hosts more than 30 local, regional and national acts on four stages across six city blocks in Rockville Town Center, kids amusements and the return of "the beach" sand pile. The festival runs from 2-10 p.m., with the Taste of Rockville opening at noon on both days.

The city's 73rd annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29, caps off the holiday weekend in Town Center.

  • Croydon Creek Nature Center.
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and box office. Tickets are always available at www.rockvillemd.gov/theatre.
  • Glenview Mansion, including the mansion's art gallery.
  • Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers.
  • Rockville Senior Center.

The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center's indoor pool and fitness center will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The outdoor pools open at noon. However, due to the city's Memorial Day parade, access to Martins Lane and the center's parking lot will be restricted until after noon. Parking fees at city-owned meters will be suspended for the day.

Montgomery County Changes

Montgomery County government will observe the following holiday schedule for Memorial Day:

  • County Offices – closed
  • Libraries - closed
  • County Liquor stores – all stores will be open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Recreation –all indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities will close at 6 p.m.; administrative offices, senior centers and community recreation centers will be closed
  • Montgomery Parks - Information available at http://www.montgomeryparks.org/
  • Ride On – will operate on a Sunday schedule. Information is available at this link:http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DOT-Transit/holiday_schedules.html.
  • Metrorail – Information available at www.wmata.com
  • Metrobus – Information available at www.wmata.com
  • TRiPS Commuter Stores (Silver Spring and Friendship Heights) – closed
  • Refuse/recycling pickup – no collection, all collections scheduled on or after the holiday will be made one day later in the week
  • The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station - closed Memorial Day; will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30. The Public Unloading Facility at the Route 355 (Frederick Road) entrance will operate normal operating hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – free
  • MCPS Schools and Administrative Offices – closed
  • State offices and courts – closed
