Safeway plans to close one of its Rockville locations in April, a report said, with an Asian/Chinese grocery based in NY replacing it.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Safeway plans to close one of its four Rockville locations in April, a report said, with an Asian/Chinese grocery based in Long Island, New York, replacing it.

The Safeway at 1800 Rockville Pike will close, The MoCo Show was first to report. Its replacement in the development is Go Fresh 365, which call itself as a Chinese/Asian supermarket chain, according to an email sent to residents by management of the Galvan at Twinbrook.

The Rockville store would be the chain's first Maryland location, according to the Go Fresh 365 website. Currently, the site lists about a dozen locations in New York, Boston, Florida and Connecticut.

The company calls itself the No. 1 Asian/Chinese supermarket chain on the East Coast, and has been in business for 20 years.

"Go Fresh 365 Inc has set up more than ten big chain supermarkets in New York, Boston, Florida and Maryland, which sell fresh foodstuff, articles of daily use and healthcare products for women and children," the website said.

It does not list a Maryland store location yet.
