UPDATE: Tornado Warning for Upcounty; Severe Storms Forecast for Metro Region

Update, 3:15 p.m., June 1:

A tornado warning for northern Montgomery County has been extended until 3:40 p.m. At 3:10 p.m. radar indicated that the immediately impacted area was near Sykesville in Carroll County, the National Weather Service reported.

Original post, 2:45 p.m., June 1:

A tornado warning is in effect for Montgomery County until 3 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., weather radar on CNN showed storms with rotation tracking north to northeast from Poolesville to Gaithersburg.

An Emergency Alert System message said radar picked up a severe thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes in Damascus moving north at 25 mph.

A National Weather Service forecast for Rockville includes a severe thunderstorm warning for the upcounty. 

A tornado watch has been issued for Montgomery County, the District of Columbia, and neighboring counties until 9 p.m. Friday. Click here for more details about which counties are included in the tornado watch.

The National Weather Service is warning of severe thunderstorms likely to develop this afternoon and evening, with heavy rain and strong winds. There is also a possibility of large hail, isolated tornadoes, and flash flooding in the region.
